Attention all home brewers and barbecuers! It’s time to share your gifts with the world and put your best recipes and grill techniques to the test at the on Sunday, August 31st at the Mateel Community Center!
Mateel is seeking contestants who wish to stake their claims as best in their categories! This fun and delicious summertime event offers local backyard and pro grill masters an opportunity to win money and other prizes, a plaque engraved with your name to commemorate your win, free admission for two, and best of all, bragging rights!
Meanwhile regional breweries and home-brewers will face off in a tasters choice competition with no better judges than the beer-loving audience members themselves!
Starting at 4pm and going until 8pm amidst the tantalizing smells of succulent barbecue wafting through the hall, patio and “back 40”, the event will feature unlimited micro/ homebrew tastings in a free commemorative tasting glass, a smorgasbord of BBQ samplers from the competing contestants, a free plate a side dishes/ complimentary breads, and the chance to help decide the competition’s winners by voting for your favorite BBQ dishes and beers.
To ensure your Labor Day Sunday is fun as well as delicious, the Mateel will showcase the fabulous funk of with their bluesy vocals, funky bass and mash-ups of the classics. Featuring some of Humboldts finest musicians with Andy Butts on guitar and vocals, Brian Swislow on Hammond B3, Steve Carvalho on bass, Michael Carvalho on drums, brings authentic blues rock, and jam with vintage guitars, amps and attitude!
Local indie rockers, , featuring the popular SoHum musicians, Tanner Speas, Trent Sanders, and Graeme Scott will start this Smoke-Off event right with a smokin’ performance!
To sign up for the BBQ competition or to enter your homebrew, call the Mateel office at 923-3368. Two free admissions are offered to each BBQ contestant or home-brewer who enters. Prizes, bragging rights and a commemorative plaque go home with the top three winners in both the Beer and BBQ categories, plus a limited cash reimbursement on expenses for the winning BBQ or homebrew contestants.
Please note that BBQ contestants must provide their own ingredients, serving utensils, and grill, plus make enough of their dish to serve bite size samplers to a crowd of 200 people.
Admission is at the door and is a steal at only $25 for the all-inclusive beer tasting/ BBQ ticket or $10 for the BBQ/ music ticket.
