Hellbound Glory
Helbound Glory

Hellbound Glory

Headliner, Hellbound Glory, is popular for their stone hard country and honky tonk music.  Performing on banjo, fiddle, and steel guitar for that heavy twang, their songs are full of grit and character with lead singer/songwriter, Leroy Virgil’s whiskey and gravel croon bringin’ it home.
Brothers Comatose
Brothers Comatose

Brothers Comatose

The five member band, The Brothers Comatose, areled by Alex Morrison on banjo and vocals and his brother, Ben on guitar and vocals.  They are a strong bluegrass-influenced folk rock band that brings a sing along, stomp along energy to their live shows, which earned them a slot at this year’s Outside Lands festival.

Pine Box Boys
Pine Box Boys

Pine Box Boys

The Pinebox Boys, say their music isn’t exactly bluegrass - more like “bloodgrass” with a song list that includes humorous originals and new renditions of old murder ballad classics as evidenced on their albums, Arkansas Killing Time, Stab, Child of Calamity, and their latest, Tales of The Emancipated Head.

Hillstomp
Hillstomp

Hillstomp

Hillstomp is a punk blues duo known for unique versions of traditional material as well as notable originals, including “Northeast Portland 3AM,” “Graverobbers Blues,” and “Lucy’s Lament.” They are widely considered to be the forerunners in the modern two-piece blues revival, along with acts like the Black Keys, DooRag and The White Stripes.

Polecat
Polecat

Polecat

Polecat hails from Bellingham, WA and willbring along their dance-friendly Americana, a unique style rooted in bluegrass but also incorporating elements of blues and jazz with a hint of reggae and Celtic flavor.

Three Times Bad
Three Times Bad

Three Times Bad

Three Times Bad’s Jesús Ángel García describes his band’s sound as “dirty roots music: bent blues and bluegrass, drunk country, anti-folk, story songs, hillbilly swing, Appalachian rags, hot sing-alongs, freak preachery, and murder ballads from the dark side of lovin’ the reverend’s wife on a bed of cornbread crumbs.”

Cash'd Ou
Cash'd Out

Cash'd Out

Cash’d Out is one of the nation’s premier Johnny Cash tribute shows.  Doing authentic justice to the music of “The Man In Black” they’ve won Best Tribute Band at the San Diego Music Awards two years running and are sure to be a favorite of any Johnny Cash fan.

Blackberry Bushes String Band
Blackberry Bushes String Band

Blackberry Bushes Stringband

Hailing from Olympia, WA, the inimitable, multi-instrumentalists of Blackberry Bushes String Band have a repertoire of original bluegrass and traditionally twisted music infused with indie, jazz, punk, and alternative styles.

Hicktown Homeboys
Hicktown Homeboys

Hicktown Homeboys

Hicktown Homeboys are a CA-based acoustic band devoted to traditional country music from the 30’s through the 60’s, plus a few folksongs and bluegrass thrown in for good measure. Their high-level musicianship and lead singer Eric Cornforth’s uncommonly sweet vocals set them apart from other acts in their genre.

Absynth Quintet
Absynth Quintet

Absynth Quintet

Anchoring the local end of the bill, Humboldt County’s own Absynth Quintet is getting raves for their tight Grismanesque picking with a healthy dash of gypsy jazz on the side. Always a crowd pleaser, their live shows are proof positive as to why Strawberry Music Festival chose to offer them a slot on their bill this summer.

Striped Pig String Band
Striped Pig Stringband

Striped Pig Stringband

The Striped Pig String Band is an incredibly engaging old-time string band. Theyplay traditional old-time fiddle/banjo/ukelele tunes made for dancing with a traditional caller to teach the dances. Their unabashed love and enjoyment of what they do is highly infectious, so non-dancers beware!

Rooster McClintock
Rooster McClintock

Rooster McClintock

To say Rooster McClintock is “boot-stompin’ booty-shakin’ Humboldt Honky Tonk is the truth, but it hardly covers the appeal of this six-piece, goodtime band that rocks five-part harmonies, as well as dobro, two guitars, banjo, bass and drums.

Dirt Floor Band
Dirt Floor Band

Dirt Floor Band

Representing Mendocino County, Willits’ own Dirt Floor Band describes their music as “barefoot-punk-grass,” a special blend of “mutt music” that combines guitars, banjos, mandolins, harmonicas, bass, drums, and three singer/songwriters to produce bluegrass with an electric funk jam twist.

Compost Mountain Boys
Compost Mountain Boys

Compost Mountain Boys

Humboldt County’s most time-honored bluegrass ensemble, Compost Mountain Boys are back at the Hoedown after a long hiatus to present their traditional and original, old school, down home string band music.

No Good Redwood Ramblers
No Good Redwood Ramblers

No Good Redwood Ramblers

Arcata’s No Good Redwood Ramblers dress in period attire and play a combination of original and traditional tunes in the old time, bluegrass and jugband styles for an amalgam they call “Jug-grass.”

Way Out West
Way Out West

Way Out West

With Charlie Pecora on banjo, Robert Smyth on mandolin, Marie Shafer on bass, Larry Fries on guitar, and Matt Hanf on drums, Way Out West plays a variety of bluegrass and country originals and are surely one of Southern Humboldt’s favorite acts.

Jefferson Parson
Jefferson Parson & Bell Springs

Jefferson Parson & Bell Springs

Jefferson Parson & Bell Springs will round out the bill with their original, old-timey, post-modern, sometimes radical perspectives on history, ecology, and personal experience.
